Program Background Summary: Pakistan Reading Project (PRP) is five years USAID funded project starting June 2013 with the objective to support the provincial and regional departments of education (DoE) throughout Pakistan to improve reading skills of at least 1.3 million children in grade one and two. The goal will be supported by three interrelated components including improved classroom learning environment for reading, improve policies and systems for reading and community based support for reading in Pakistan. The anticipated results include 23,800 teachers in 23,800 public schools with improved skills in teaching reading, 3,649 scholarships for ADE and B.Ed. (Hons.) students, mobile bus libraries reaching out to 300 communities.
Job Overview/Summary
Under the Mobile Bus Library Program, PRP has provided mobile bus library services to selected locations/schools of Sindh and Islamabad. The objective of the mobile bus libraries includes access of students to reading material and implementation of programmatic activities. In connection to this, PRP is initiating a new MBL program for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in which selected schools and communities will be provided with reading facilities for early grade students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Mobile Bus Library Facilitator is the initial point of contact for students, parents of students, faculty and staff of public schools. The way users’ needs are met at the Mobile Bus Library is the basis upon which they will make judgement about the mobile library program. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the incumbent to provide prompt and courteous services along with complete & accurate information to all users. The extent to which accurate information is provided and the manner in which it is provided affect the extent to which the Mobile Library succeeds.
A Mobile Bus Library Facilitator performs duties that include but not limited to management of the mobile bus library, shelving, facilitating learning activities for children, reporting and coordination with relevant stakeholders. Specific Responsibilities:
- Conducting introductory meetings with public school’s administrators, to be used for sharing methodology, timings and frequency of storytelling sessions, reading activities and recording minutes of the meetings.
- To establish complete coordination with the Program Officer – MBL for efficient program support. Sharing of Means of Verification (MOV’s), Success Stories and day-to-day reports with the PO for efficient program reporting.
- Conducting MBL guided activities for children i.e. storytelling sessions and word building games etc.
- Sharing and updating of monthly visit plan of Mobile Bus Library to schools and sharing the same with IRC-PRP
- Facilitate summer/winter reading program with low cost private schools/communities
- Maintain Log for issuance and receipt of books to and from readers (school students) in provided registers
- Briefings to students on different book titles and their content. Facilitating children during learning activities
- Performs equipment maintenance, data entry and other duties as assigned
- Collection and compilation of reader’s feedback using standard formats and sharing the same with IRC-PRP
- Recording of book reader student’s information on provided registers
- Preparation and drafting of monthly and quarterly progress reports of the Mobile Bus Library activities and
- Responsible to keep all books’ recorded and well maintained
- Sharing of all MBL related activity updates and reports on a regular and timely basis
- Facilitating monitoring visits conducted by IRC-PRP staff and third party monitors whenever required
- Any other task assigned as by the Supervisor

Other Internal and/or external contacts: Work within the Mobile Bus Library Department, in close collaboration with the Technical Director – Supplementary Resource Development, Program Officer – MBL and MBL Driver well as provide support to any other department as and when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Graduate in Education (Most preferably B.Ed. Honors or ADE from a recognized institution)
Work Experiences
- Teaching Experience (Minimum One Year) required for Early Grade Students of Class-1 and 2
- Community Mobilization experience will be value addition
Demonstrated Skills:
- Ability to work as part of a team and take initiatives
- Experience of working with children and activities related to reading
- Knowledge of Pakistani education system both at national and provincial level
- Good organizational and public relation skills
- Exceptional communication/reporting skills in English & Urdu with computer literacy are prerequisite
Language and Computer Skills:
- Fluency in Pashto, Urdu and English, spoken and written, is essential.
